Every day the skincare landscape grows ever more crowded and complicated. New companies spring up constantly with complex skincare systems, some of which you’d need an hour each day to properly apply as well as a Science Ph.D. to figure out.
But does it really need to be that difficult? Maybe it’s human nature, but we have a tendency to ignore a situation until it’s a crisis and then, at that point, we throw all our attention and effort at it. But it would have been a much smaller problem if we’d addressed it early on.
That’s why the best thing for your skin isn’t a serum, a moisturizer, a specialty product or any of those things. The best thing for your skin is preventative. It’s sunblock. Boring old, unsexy sunblock, used every day without fail throughout your 20s and 30s especially. If women would do that, many of the aging skin ills that affect midlife would be postponed, perhaps indefinitely.
Nowadays there are so many unique and simple formulations of sunblock on the market – you are sure to find a brand you like. Even if you choose a physical sunblock with titanium dioxide (the best choice for skin protection), modern brands are less sticky and chalky than they used to be. They’re easy to apply under makeup and you won’t even feel like you’re wearing anything special. But your skin will know. Wrinkles, age spots, crepeiness and skin cancers will be kept at bay just by a 60 second ritual every morning. There really is not greater return on investment in the beauty world, or in life.
For lovely skin, forget the search for the world’s best moisturizer and instead, make a habit of using your choice of sunblock every day. Your skin will thank you.
