Once upon a time, matte was where it was at, when it came to makeup and skintone. The shelves groaned with products designed to not only minimize shine but completely eliminate it forever.

We had oil blocking primers, oil absorbing foundations, even oil blotting little papers to carry around in your purse should the slightest shine dare to break out as you went through your day.

Today though, anything goes with makeup looks and a glossy, dewy skin is now popular as it is associated with youth, health and vitality. In fact, it’s hard to remember what everyone’s big problem was with shine now that it looks so pretty.

For the look to work, a dedicated skin routine is key because you can’t just hide the skin under layers of heavy makeup. Skin quality matters, so the first step is to include a sunblock in your daily routine and cleanse the skin thoroughly at night.

To impart a healthy dewiness, consider using an oil product that works well for your skintone. Squalane is an oil your body makes naturally. You can buy a kind that’s sourced from plants (make sure it’s not sourced from sharks!), to hydrate and lock in moisture.

Whenever I use my squalane oil I get compliments on my skin. There are also oils with Vitamin C and Tumeric that are beneficial in imparting a healthy glow. You can apply the oils over serums or just on their own, morning or night as you prefer.

The nice thing about a dewy look, besides that fact that it banishes dull, dry skin, is that you can decide how much glow you’d like to have, and you can mix it up as well, depending upon your plans for the day.
